Tiny Blue Tykes

The German company, Schleich, have been producing PVC smurf figurines since 1965. They first produced the Papa smurf (Papaschlumpf) in 1969. He was produced every year until 1972 and then re-realeased from 1976-1999.

Interestingly enough the Papa smurf toy, although being numbered 2.0001, wasn’t the first of the PVC smurfs to be released. Normal smurf (2.0002), Gold Smurf (2.0005) and Prisoner smurf (2.0010) were the first 3 smurfs released in 1965.

These figurines are made from PVC (Polyvinyl chloride) and measure approximately 5cm in height. The base material is generally either blue, white or red. They were produced in both Germany and Hong Kong.
